Kolejny nius. Nawet sprzed tygodnia. Wygląda na to, że miasto zachłystnęło się poprzednią inwestycją i ma apetyt na więcej: New bid for next phase of Active Travel Schemes submitted to Government:
Sheffield is aiming to receive a £3.5m share of this fund, to further transform the city’s transport network and encourage sustainable travel, as demonstrated through the Connecting Sheffield programme. (...)
The Active Travel Fund bid in Sheffield will focus on the following schemes:
Attercliffe to Advanced Manufacturing Park Cycle Route – A scheme to improve the cycle network in the east end of the city, benefitting the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District and connecting surrounding communities to employment opportunities deep in the Attercliffe area and City Centre by utilising existing travel routes.
(Rowerem do pracy?! No way!)
East Bank Road Cycle Route – This will see a new cycle route on East Bank Road connecting the communities of Heeley, Arbourthorne and Gleadless Valley, linking to the proposed Sheaf Valley Cycle Route.
Recreational Crossings – Sheffield is renowned for its fantastic green and woodland spaces. The pandemic has demonstrated just how important these are for mental wellbeing, physical health, alongside providing environmental benefits too. Crossing busy roads in the vicinity of these spaces is often a barrier to people using them, and this proposal aims to enhance accessibility by providing better crossing facilities. Crossings are therefore proposed on Abbey Lane for Ecclesall Woods, and Crookes Valley Road to link Crookes Valley Park, the Ponderosa and Weston Park.
Councillor Douglas Johnson, Executive Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport said “This is a really exciting time in our Connecting Sheffield programme and the submission of this funding application marks the next phase of our vision for creating a truly sustainable and accessible travel network for our residents and businesses.

Ojejku Delirka. Odbierasz to zbyt personalnie.
Z początkiem pandemii City of Edinburgh Council zainstalowało sporo dedykowanych ścieżek dla rowerzystów.
One of the duties of a doctor as stated by the General Medical Council is “to protect and promote the health of patients and the public”1. As health professionals we have been reminded by our professional bodies of our responsibilities to raise the profile of the climate emergency, which is a public health emergency likely to have a much greater impact than COVID-192,3. We have a responsibility to speak up for disadvantaged groups who are disproportionately vulnerable to the health and economic impacts of the climate crisis.
Deprivation is strongly associated with poor health outcomes. Premature death remains four times higher in the most deprived areas of Scotland compared with the least deprived areas4. In NHS Lothian, the most deprived areas have 67% more deaths than the overall average. Within the City of Edinburgh, men living in the least deprived areas can expect to live for 11 years longer than those in the most deprived areas, and women can expect to live for 8 years longer5.
Those living in areas of deprivation are less likely to drive but much more likely to be injured in a road traffic collision6. Rates of pedestrian casualties are twice as high in children as in adults, and pedestrians over 70 years of age have the highest fatality rate7.
Many of our patients do not have the financial means, health status, or abilities to access private car transport. Children, the frail elderly, and people with chronic illnesses or disabilities are disadvantaged in opportunities to access services and community by systems which prioritise private car transport.
Moves to promote safe active travel, including widening of pavements and provision of segregated paths, make the urban environment more accessible for people with disabilities and release road space for reliable and efficient public transport.
Measures to improve the urban environment and promote active travel in Edinburgh will differentially benefit the most disadvantaged members of our community and so help to reduce health inequalities in Edinburgh. We ask that councillors carefully consider the differential impact of decisions to prioritise private car transport on those for whom private car transport is not an option.
Making a basic commuter e-bike would therefore produce about 165kg of CO2e.
But compared with the manufacturing impact of a car, the differences between a conventional bike and an electric one are marginal. Making a small hatchback produces about 5.5 tonnes of CO2e. An electric version adds another 2-4 tonnes owing to the battery and electric motor. And manufacturing an SUV produces up to 13 tonnes.
W skrócie:
- Produkcja e-bike’a: 165kg CO2
- Produkcja małego hatchbacka: 5,5 tony
- Ten sam hatchback w elektryku: 7,5 do 9,5 ton
- SUV: 13 ton CO2

Samochodowa epidemia:
Oslo, incredibly, virtually eliminated traffic deaths in 2019 by aggressively reducing speeds, banning cars from the city center, and building out a robust bike path network. Very slow speeds and car-free zones are becoming the norm in many European cities.
"Bo tam jest inaczej":
Americans might imagine that Europeans are somehow naturally predisposed to dense development that deprioritizes cars, but that isn’t exactly true. Car-centric development came to Europe in the mid-20th century, just as it did to the US.
The Netherlands’ car fatality rate was once higher than America’s; now it’s one-third of it. In the 1970s, a citizens movement called “Stop de Kindermoord,” or “Stop Murdering Children,” protested the country’s epidemic of death by cars. “They were just sick and tired of kids being killed in the streets,” says Jason Slaughter, a Canadian immigrant in Amsterdam who runs Not Just Bikes, an urban planning YouTube channel. Combined with the 1973 oil crisis, public outcry helped transform Dutch streets.

@botffinka #326:
I po kłótni z Karolem Delirka znikł w tzw. tajemniczych okolicznościach...
What?
