Hello, Jazz Bar Supporters!

The Fringe is over, so now we can rest ... and after having just staged some 215 gigs in 24 consecutive days - we're ready!
However, the 'rest' concept is a bit academic. Now we're back to our (seemingly rather conservative, after what we've just been through!) 3 or 4 gigs a day, seven days a week, and we've got some good stuff coming up for you - as always!

Rather than list everything here, which is rather a lot (it's all on the website anyway), here's some of the 'special' highlights over the next couple of weeks. Full details are on the website, of every single gig - take a wee look!

Fri 31 Aug
Entry from 8pm (music 9-12) £5/£4 ANDY MEARS QUARTET
Sax player Andy Mears brings in his cool quartet with Euan Stevenson (piano), Andy Sharkey (bass) and Jim Drummond (drums) - an evening of sophisticated swinging modern jazz

Sat 1 September
Entry from 8pm (music 9-12) £5/£4 LORNE COWIESON QUINTET
Cracking line-up led by Glasgow trumpeter Lorne, regularly featured with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, with Konrad Wiszniewski (sax), Brian Kellock (piano), Andy Sharkey (bass) and Doug Hough (drums)

Sun 2
Entry from 8pm (music 9-12) £5/£4 STRETCH DAWRSON – TWO BANDS!
Well known for his Western Swing renditions, the singer/guitarist brings in some Swing, Rockabilly and hints of Bluegrass! A great night with two bands: 'Stretch Dawrson and the Mending Hearts' (the only Scottish Western Swing band in existence), and 'MP and the Expenses', in which Stretch teams up with local blues legend Michael Parker. Come on down and stretch your imagination!

Mon 3
Entry 7.30pm £4/£3 THE JAZZ BAR's 17-Piece BIG BAND
Open rehearsal 8-9pm, full gig from 9.15-10.45pm
Wonderful sounds from this great weekly band with FOUR trumpets, FOUR trombones, FIVE saxes and FOUR rhythm! It's a variable line-up of top-class pro players, who travel in from Glasgow, Borders, Perth, Fife (and Edinburgh!), to participate in this outstanding gig. There's just nowhere else you can hear this standard of regular Big Band playing. Co-led by sax player Keith Edwards, the personnel changes weekly, as does their selection of fantastic arrangements, many of which are imported direct from Los Angeles by the band's ex-LA bassist Erik Lars Hansen.
