Pettycur/Burnt Island

Conditions : Pettycur bay is actually a tiny little bay right next to the harbour at Kinghorn - you shouldn't try to kitesurf here as it is too small and too close to the harbour. When people say they are going to Pettycur they mean parking at that small bay and walking around the rocks (if the tide is in) to the next beach along which is a safer distance upwind (in a SW) of the harbour. When the tide is out you can walk around the rocks and it appears like one big beach but BE WARNED - the tide comes in very quickly here! Don't try to kite in front of the rocks as you will run out of beach very soon. The same goes for where to leave your kit - make sure you take it well up the beach if you plan a long session.

Once you get along past the rocks there is a large spit of sand, generally we kite around the middle between the rocks you've walked around and the top of the spit. This beach is only really suitable for beginners when the tide is right out - when it gets in a bit you should only ride here if you are confident of staying upwind.

Well those are the bad bits about Pettycur - the good bits are that in a SW or SSW you get a lovely clean cross shore wind and generally very smooth water without the chop you normally get at places like Gullane.

Access : Park on the street which ends up at Pettycur Bay - you need to drive to Kinghorn and go right down to the harbour to find it (map soon). Walk round the rocks (there is a patch at all tide states) and head up the beach a bit before rigging up.

Hazards : Watch out for the tide!

Nie pomoge, nie kupowalem nic z tej strony, na mile morska jedzie z tej strony podrobka. :-(
