The Digiconomist's Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index estimated that one Bitcoin transaction takes 1,544 kWh to complete, or the equivalent of approximately 53 days of power for the average US household.
To put that into money terms, the average cost per kWh in the US is 13 cents. That means a Bitcoin transaction would generate more than $200 in energy bills.
Bitcoin mining used more energy than Argentina, according to an analysis from Cambridge University in February. At 121.36 terawatt-hours, crypto mining would be in the top 30 of countries based on energy consumption.

"MIRI (Bernama): A total of 1,069 units of bitcoin mining machines worth RM5.3mil were seized in a joint operation carried out by police and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) in Miri between February and April.
Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said eight individuals were also arrested for being involved in mining activities using electricity stolen from SEB's electricity supply lines during the period.
"A total of six people have been successfully charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code for electricity theft and have been fined up to RM8,000 and jailed for up to eight months," he said in a statement here Friday (July 16)."

The Home Office now wants harder and more extensive secrecy laws that would have the effect of deterring sources, editors and reporters, making them potentially subject to uncontrolled official bans not approved by a court, and punished much more severely if they do not comply. In noisy political times, a government consultation issued two months ago has had worryingly little attention. Although portrayed as countering hostile activity by state actors, the new laws would, if passed, ensnare journalists and sources whose job is reporting “unauthorised disclosures” that are in the public interest.

Poland have sent six swimmers home from the Tokyo Olympics after selecting too many by mistake.
Poland initially picked 23 athletes but had to cut that to 17 based on world governing body FINA's qualifying rules.
Polish Swimming Federation (PZP) president Pawel Slominski has apologised and said he understood the anger of those who have returned home.
"I express great regret, sadness and bitterness about the situation," he said in a statement.
