David Mach exhibition at City Art Centre in Edinburgh
The City Art Centre in Edinburgh is to hold an exhibition of works by British artist David Mach. His sculptures and collages will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Bible.
The exhibition, called Precious Light, will feature more than 40 of Mach’s trademark collages and large-scale sculptures composed of thousands of mass-produced objects such as coat-hangers and match-heads. It has taken over three years to put together the works, which will reinterpret scenes from the bible.
For the run of the exhibition David Mach will move his working studio from London to the City Art Centre. Visitors will be able to watch the artist and his team create a decoupage depiction of the Last Supper.
Mach says:
‘The King James Bible can’t be equalled in the sheer magnitude of influence it has had on our culture and on the way we think and talk right to the present day. The Bible has all the themes and inspiration an artist could want, struggle, pestilence, love, war – it’s dripping with emotion and drama.’
David Mach RA, aged 55, is one of the UK’s most successful and respected artists. He became a Royal Academician in 1998 and in 2000 was appointed Professor of Sculpture at the Royal Academy Schools.
The City Art Centre, Edinburgh is a nine-storey former warehouse in the centre of of the city near Waverley rail station. It is open Mon–Sat 10am–5pm, Sundays 12pm–5pm.
